Service Dog Training Program
Psychiatric and Mobility Disabilities Only

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act a person with a disability (handler) has the right to train their own service dog. The K9 Basix Service Dog Program provides assistance to the handler to train their own service dog. The handler is responsible for 85% of the training. ADA does not require a service dog to be professionally trained and there is no certification, licensing, or registry for a service dog. Anyone, whether it be a dog trainer, an organization, business, agency, or website that claims to certify your dog as a service dog is a fraud. NO service dog certification in the U.S. is recognized by the ADA, DOJ, OAG, or TDLR.

That being said, it is a good idea to work with a professional trainer to properly train your dog to perform tasks to mitigate a disability and provide public access training to assure the dog is confident and well behaved in public.

K9 Basix provides specialized training to teach a dog to perform a specific task to help mitigate a person’s disability. Due to the rigorous requirements of the program, K9 Basix does not accept clients into the program who are under the age of 21 or have children under 12 who live in the home with the handler.

The Service Dog Training Program requires a detailed discussion that is not practical to explain on this website or via text. Please call Monique at 915-873-1593.

K9 Basix does NOT train fake service dogs just because you want to take your dog everywhere with you. There is a $1,000 fine in Texas for falsely representing your dog as a service dog when a person does not have a disability and/or the dog has not been specifically trained to perform a task to mitigate a disability.

El Paso is actually a very pet friendly city. There is no reason to try to pass your dog off as a service dog. You can find a list of 43 businesses and 65 restaurants in El Paso that are pet friendly in the Dog Behavior Guide on this website.

Payment Options: Cash, Check, Apple Pay, Cash App, Zelle and Venmo (915-873-1593)
